ITI, a high for the lower strata

Polytechnic strengthens engineering concepts at an early stage. Likewise, Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and Industrial Training Centers (ITC) also do something similar. Matriculation is the basic eligibility for admission to an ITI or an ITC.Theadmission fee too is pretty low to accommodate the interests of even the lowerstrata of society. ITI centres provide basic training in plumbing, welding,air-conditioning, information technology and refrigeration. These centres areaimed mainly at self-employment and skill-based training.The trademay also be either technical or non-technical. The latter is aimed atencouraging self-employment as for the former, campus placements are held soonafter the completion of course. These institutes impart post-school training intechnical fields which enable industries to employ more manpower since thesestudents gain practical knowledge. Apprenticeship opens new avenuesfor immediate employment with companies. These courses are self financing andalso serve as an added advantage for career opportunities. The duration of thecourse may vary from one year to three years depending on the choice oftrade.Employment opportunities for ITI qualified students are vast.Apart from entrepreneurship as an all-time available option, students can getjobs in private as well as public sectors.
